Does anyone know what I need to do to get this adapter working on my Mac Pro 2,1 running Yosemite? It is based on Broadcom, and I'm at my wits end. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not all dongles work, I went through a lot of them. See this thread on how to activate BT with Bluetooth Explorer. If you can't activate it, then the dongle won't work.
