Hey there

I'm currently on the road with only my iPad2 and I was curious if its possible to install iOS5 directly or do you still need to download it and install it through iTunes/ Mac?

Thanks

You necessarily need a computer with iTunes in order to install iOS 5. Once you've done that, updates can be installed over the air.

If you have absolutely no data you need to save on your iPad running iOS 4.x, you could do what @thewitt suggests and go by an Apple store.

If you need to back up your data before upgrading, wait until you can hook up to your Mac via iTunes.
