Install Leopard on iBook w/ external hard drive

I have the leopard install disk restored to a partition on my external hard drive and want to install leopard on my iBook G4. The partition shows up as a startup disk option in my macbook which is running Snow Leopard, but not in the ibook which is running Tiger. Shouldn't I be able to boot to the drive with the iBook? How can I make the iBook boot to the disk so I can install Leopard?

You have to have a firewire external drive to boot on an iBook.

Oh, that explains it. So if I don't have a firewire drive or a DL DVD is there any way to install Leopard on the iBook?

Do you have another Mac that can read the disk? If so, you could hook the two computers up via Firewire and install from that.

Yeah I have another mac.. But the stupid late 2008 Macbook's don't have a firewire port, I guess I'll just have to go buy some DL DVD's and use those

Any way to use remote install Mac OSX to do this?

Why would you need Leopard on iBook?

A double layer DVD is under $1 in bulk or just a few dollars.
