I talked a co-worker into buying an '11 mbp when it first came out. She uses it strictly for work and about 90% of what she does is pages.
Last week, her hard drive died, she had Applecare so they replaced it for her, but wouldn't install her software. She had a horrible experience trying to get stuff reinstalled (mostly pages), she was on the phone with them daily and went back to the the genius bar 2 more times. Ultimately they talked her into upgrading to Mavericks and it installed the new version of pages. The new version is absolutely useless for her purposes. When she asked the geniuses how to get '09 back, the answer is basically, 'I don't know, try the iTunes store'. When she looks in the app store under purchases it only shows the new version.
How can she reinstall '09?
Besides that, she has had so many other problems since then. She had no interested in upgrading to Mavericks. We use some niche specialized software at work, which gatekeeper prevented from running. It was easy enough for me to help her with that, but it was just one more needless frustrating in a bad week for her.
She's lost days of productivity, and since we're independent contractors, she's personally lost a lot of money over it. Every day she goes on rants in the office how much she hates Apple. I feel very bad because it's entirely my fault she bought the Mac. Why is it so hard to reinstall the software she bought?
