Install Tiger over Panther

Can anyone out there tell me if it's possible to install Tiger using a Tiger Restore Disc over Panther?

Here's what I have:
Twp years ago, I bought a first gen. Mac Mini with Panther (first Apple I've ever owned). I'm about to buy a new 24" iMac. Is it possible to use the Restore Disc that comes with the iMac to install Tiger over Panther on the old Mini? I realize that Apple probably tries to prohibit such activity, but I really don't feel like spending $130 on top of $2000 and I'd really like to run Tiger on both of my machines.

Also, the restore discs will only work with the type of computer they were originally supplied with.

Even if you could get around that restriction, your mini has a PPC processor and the iMac is Intel so the OS will be incompatible.
