Hi guys, I'm trying to install windows 10 in my Imac 8.1 2008 but had not yet success.
-Leopard is inside but bootcamp only create a new partition in mbr for windows so i tried alt function but it doesn't load penstick (freeze)
-I made a penstick with rEFIt and boot it(SIP disabled) but when i lunch windows 10 penstick or 7 (x64) from refit or it freeze on boot64.efi or no bootable file screen.
i probably have to edit windows 10 penstick to load it correctly but don't know how ?
penstick burned with GPT and mediacreation from windows...i read that probably have to format in fat32 (tomorrow test) also if refit supports ntfs ?
Any suggestion?
-in my other imac 2011 it was more easy!

Maybe the below link can help.

Can my IMac OS X 10.8.5, Processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Memmory 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM run macOS 11: Big Sur or macOS 12: Monterey ?

-imac 8.1 can run up to El capitan 10.11(you can download it for free from apple website. note required min snow leopard inside)..there is also a way to install 10.14. your imac is simply old for new Mac release.
probably is possible to install windows 7/8.1 or 10 in my imac via usb by editing boot camp (testing tomorrow)
-edit. boot camp can burn usb stick by editing plist in content package (with sip disabled). anyway still the same problem efi freeze...looking for a solution without dvd.
-edit 2 trying with grub but still freezing so i think is efi problem in bootx64 cause linux is running without problem from usb. really strange! moving to 10.12 than i probably have to buy a dvd player for 20€ ??

Still no way found.
Efi 1.x (no upgrade from apple) doesn't boot any 32bit or 64bit Windows Xp/ 7 or 10 usb stick (pro or home versions). Sadly you can install linux but poor audio quality.
Installed also Mojave with patch tool and used APFS patcher in Imac 8.1 early 2008 Intel AHCI with success. Now filesystem is APFS but ugly boot with script patches and no working backlight keyboard's button.
Ordered a new dvd player..so sad ??
