Hi. I currently have a Powerbook g4 running Pather 10.3.9 and have tried to upgrade the operating system to Tiger 10.4

After the dvd has booted up a message appears as follows "THIS SOFTWARE CANNOT BE INSTALLED ON THIS COMPUTER"

I thought this would be an easy upgrade. Can anyone help.

Many thanks

It's the disc which came with my new G5 Tower. Is this a problem??

Yes.

Practically: The disc should be optimized for the Mac it came with.

Legally: You're not allowed to install it on any other Macs than the original.

Yes. It can only be installed on a G5 tower. The DVDs you get with a new machine are restricted to only install on that class of machine. In addition they are only legally licensed to be installed on the machine they ship with.

I am a little confused though. I have completely erased the hard drive on the Powerbook G4 as I am due to sell this week. After re-installing the original software I seemed to have lost my widgets in the dock. I have since then downloaded the necessary software upgrades from apple but have not been successful in regaining my widgets. Tell me I'm not seeing things. They were in 10.3 weren't they???

Ok. I haven't taken my pills this morning.......I've found my original installation DVD from Tiger (Purchased form Apple). Have now successfuly upgraded my powerbook G4 to Tiger 10.4:)

I mistakenly thought that I could use the disc which came with my G5....fool I am
