Installed Snow Leopard & Quick Time will not open

I do hope that I have chosen the right forum to post this

I installed snow leopard and I have an alias for QuickTime Player
in my control bar, but when I click on the QT alias nothing happens
QT never opens. What gives as I am getting tired of these little land mines

Can some one please give me some insight to this problem or what ever it is ???
