OK I'm having a brain freeze moment !

I used to have OSX installed on my external USB drive, however as the partition was massive I reformatted and shrunk the partition to 30Gb (ample space for a bare install).

Boot from DVD, start installer, but it says I cannot install the the USB drive... why's this ?
I definitely used to have OSX installed, but cannot remember how I got it there. I know I did as I used to hold down option to select MacHD or USB device...

The demons have taken my memory away.... aggggrrrrrr

Ta muchly

It's not just the format you need to get right - to boot an Intel Mac off any drive, you need the GUID partition table, not Apple Partition Map.
