I've recently had problems with the dreaded Beach Ball of Death and tried numerous cures, which have been just temporary solutions as the problem seems to come back after some days.
I'm currently running 10.6.8 installed from the disks bought from Apple and brought up to date through system updates (the iMac came originally with 10.5).
Some people have solved the Beach Ball of Death issue by booting from the system disk and re-installing the system. I tried the same thing but halfway through the installation it stopped by itself with some message about not being able to continue. The DVD is 10.6.3 (or .4) and the system already installed is 10.6.8...maybe that has something to do with it?
Should I try to run instead the 10.6.8 bundled update? Can I run it from the same HD I will perform the pseudo installation from, or must I copy it to an external and boot from there?
Any suggestions?
