Installing 3rd Party DVD Burner on G4

I recently bought a model DW400A BenQ internal DVD burner. I've got a G4 running Mac OS 10.2.8, and the stupid machine won't recognize it. I called BenQ and was told that it was Mac compatible, and all I needed was Roxio Toast 6 to use it. I've checked all the wires and everything seems to have been setup correctly, so either I'm a complete bone head, or they lied to me. Any help would be much appreciated.
