A couple of months ago my eyes fell on a YT video of someone making his own 5K display using an empty A1419 shell, and buying a new 5K panel (check the link here!). I'd love to do this myself to use as a monitor for my MacPro, however I live in the Netherlands, and while empty A1419 shells aren't expensive on eBay, shipping is... (usually more than the actual cost of the shell).

While A1419 iMac's are way too expensive to scrap, A1312 iMac's are way more affordable. My question to you is, can you fit a A1419 model display (glass and screen as one module) in a A1312 shell (glass and screen are separate). The dimensions look to be the same, although I'm not sure how it works with the mounting mechanism. Does anyone have experience with this?

No, it just wouldn't fit - the 2009-2011 LCDs are so much thicker than a 2012-2013 LCD.

The reason I thought of this was because of the thicker LCD's in the 2009-2011 ones, and I thought there would be more than enough room to house a 2014 style LCD panel which is way smaller, but I'm not sure about the front dimensions. Some say they are identical to the millimetre, other say that they vary slightly.
