I haven't decided whether I'm going to get the new MBP or MB to replace my crippled PB G4. I have decided that I will be upgrading the hard drive to the Samsung 500GB Spinpoint M6.

My PowerBook was my Dad's and I was an experienced Windows user before moving to Mac a year ago. So I'm savvy with hardware, but once I've installed the HD, where do I go from there?

How do I reinstall Mac OS X onto the new drive in the notebook? Is there anything I should be aware of? I don't want to buy an enclosure to clone the drive to and then swap them round as I'll probably sell the old drive on eBay. I'll be putting in the new drive brand new.

Thanks all.

p.s. I've heard about the Hitachi 500GB drive. Is there any knowledge about one of these drives being better then the other?

Physically install the new drive. Put in the OS X install disks. Run Disk Utility to format the drive. Go through the OS X installer.
