Installing a Printer?

How do you decide whether you're going to use the software/driver from the manufacturer, or just attempt to plug-and-play?

Also, does this change when using an all-in-one with a scanner?

I always use the driver / software supplied by the manufacturer. Also worth checking the website for updated drivers every three months or so.

With my PSC (it's an HP) I had to get the drives for Mac which took a friggin' age to download.
