I fried the board on my old Macbook so I'm trying to install the old hard drive in my new MBP to mac a backup and install on the new hard drive, but the mac won't boot from the old hard drive it just hangs on the white screen before the Apple logo. Any ideas? Thanks.

I am not a tech pro but..
What you can probably do is disconnect your dvd drive from your new MBP and use that connection to plug in your old HDD. Boot from your regular HDD. That way you can just turn on your MBP and transfer the files from your old HDD to your current HDD.
Someone please quote/correct me if I am wrong.

How old is the MacBook, I am not 100% sure but it could be that the OS on the old disk is not compatible with your new MBPro.
Best way to do it is to install a new OS(if you don't have one installed) and transfer the files using Migration Assistant, it is inside your Utility Folder.

Cheers guys, ended up just buying a hard drive enclosure and using the migration assistant. Thanks for the help though.
