I decided to run a fresh install on my 08 MBA today. I tried to do it wirelessly and when the machine restarted for install it came back up with a "no symbol" and just kept spinning. I tried connecting via the ethernet dongle with the same result. I didn't know what I could do different with the machine so I decided to make an external boot disk.

I put the install on a 250 external drive from my iMac August 07. Once the install finished the computer restarted and was just sitting there spinning the 12 dashed circle below a "no symbol". Now I've restarted it and im getting the same thing! (I know how to get the iMac back to its regular system, just not how to get a new one one the MBA)

Any ideas?

Did you use the Remote Install OS X on the Utilities partition of your other computer? You need to do this when the first MacBook AIR CD is in the drive. Follow the instructions on the guide provided here.

i did. i couldn't figure it out and they just reinstalled at the apple store. the end goal is the same, so i guess its okay
