Installing Languages OS X Disc

I'm customizing my install and want to omit whats not necessary. What exactly does not installing languages do? Does it not install the characters for display on translation pages on say google? Or does that stuff work ok and it just doesn't allow you to change your keyboard to type in those languageS?
