Installing leopard - cant log in

Ive installed leopard on my G4 tower and I had the hard drive wiped because Im selling it and used user user as my login name with no password. Im trying to log into leopard now and in the login screen there is only an icon that says "other..." when I click it there is nothing in the name and password box and everything Ive tried does not allow me to login???

Why is it doing this?

The same thing happened to me when I upgraded. Apple had posted an official "fix" somewhere on their site, but that didn't work for me. At that point I just did an Archive & Install and it worked fine.

how do you do the archive and install? I cant get past the login screen

Boot from the DVD. Insert it, restart holding the "C" key down.
