I would like to try out Lion without compromising my current installation on my Macbook Pro. I have a 2gb external hard drive I use for my Time Machine backups. I have a lot of free space on it, so I would like to allocate some of that space just to try out Lion. How can I do this without losing my Time Machine backups?

Use DiskUtility to create an extra partition on your backup drive, so that the Time Machine backups have their own place and you have a separate place to install Lion.
