Installing Lion on new HD without internal DVD

Greetings,

I have a mid 2007 (Black) macbook. I want to upgrade the Hard Disk from 160 GB to either 500 GB or 1 TB. My DVD drive is not working. I have an external (LG brand) DVD drive. I would like to know if it is possible to install the Lion operating system from DVD by using this external drive.

MacBooks are capable of booting from USB media. However, you may find it simpler and quicker to prepare an OS X Lion Installer USB flash drive.
