I want to upgrade to Lion on my 2 year old MB Pro, I downloaded the install app for it and it didnt want to install to the SSD drive (which Snow Leopard is currently on) which surprised me - it said "This disk doesnt use the GUID Partition Tabel scheme. Use Disk Utility to change the partition scheme. Select the disk, choose the Partition tab, select the Volume Scheme and then click Options." So presumably I can run both OS's off the SSD drive if I want ? If I dont want to do that and just run Lion how do I install it onto the SSD ? If I do do that will Lion run with all my normal (SL) apps and home folder ? I have also replaced my Superdrive with a hard drive just in case that helps.

I did but didnt do anything as I was unsure at that point what was going on. I am not really that clued up about partitions so left it alone. I was unsure because SL is on the SSD and I was worred about wiping it - thanks for the guide :)

Using Disk Utility to check for the correct partition map scheme will not damage anything.

No but will Disk Utility allow me to partition that drive ready for Lion without wiping off SL which is installed on the SSD - forgive my ignorance

Sorry what do you mean ?

This?

Ahh good guide screenshot - I am at work at the mo and partner has MB so will look when get home. If presumably I will have to wipe the SSD to reformat for SL what would you recommend the best way to resinstall with all my current data ? Could I carbon copy it to my internal hard drive, apply the Lion update and then carbon it back to the SSD ?

That would work.
