This is probably a stupid question and i will probably get some flak for it but i thought thats what this forum is for is to ask questions. anyways. when installing lion will i lose everything on my computer and what are some of the issues i may run into and how can i fix them?

It's always a good idea to make a backup of your drive before doing anything as major as upgrading the OS. However, installing Lion will not delete your files.
 
I strongly recommend backing up via Time Machine and I strongly recommend doing a clean install (this WILL erase your hard drive) of Lion... AFTER you have successfully backed up your machine.
