I am trying to install Mojave onto an Apple 'blade-style' (newest version) inside of an OWC Envoy USB enclosure with a Mojave USB installer using my Macbook Pro Mid-2012 already running Mojave on my internal drive (I am basically only using the motherboard of my macbook to interface with everything).

After booting to the USB Mojave installer, I am able to select my blade SSD and install Mojave, but once it reboots, it didn't boot to the blade. It booted to my internal drive. Upon restarting and again and holding the option key, I can see that it is not even on the boot menu. So I removed my internal drive and booted up again. It loaded incredibly slowly, then the screen flashed, then the progress bar restarted and quickly loaded the Mojave installer. I guess it started to install Mojave, but gave up for some reason.

I then tried removing the USB installer and booting, and got the flashing question mark (as expected). I then restarted with the installer plugged back in and now I am getting 30 minutes remaining like it is actually installing!

But out of nowhere it craps out.

What is going on?

Can the Mojave installer install to s different external drive?

I would suspect the Mojave installer having problems with the OWC Envoy enclosure. MacSales.com seems to have many versions of the OWC Envoy USB enclosure.

I would recommend contacting MacSales support to confirm your OWC Envoy enclosure supports your hardware and Mojave:
