When I bought my Macbook 3 weeks ago, 2 Leopard installation CDs were included.

I have a friend who is still using Tiger, so I lent her the CD but apparently she is unable to install the OS. She didn't format her harddrive yet, but when she just put the CD in and it said "unable to install" or something.

Is this because of the copyright policy on the disc, or some technical problem?

1) It's against the EULA: you are distributing an illegal copy.

2) All restored DVDs shipped with new Macs are locked to only install on the exact type of Mac they ship with to stop this casual form of piracy.

she has the same kind of macbook though, it's just outdated version of mine. Is it still not allowed?

Edit: Also, is there any way to get around that?

Unless it is of an identical generation (if it's "outdated" it won't be) the discs won't work. Regardless the copy that comes with the machine is licensed for that machine and that machine alone. By allowing her to use your copy (if it worked) you are opening both of you up to civil damages and criminal charges. Tell her to buy a legal copy.
