I am not sure what is relevant and what isn't so I'll post the whole story.

I bought the upgrade from LE7 to LE8. It did not work as my LE7 was a student version which is non upgradeable. (I'll call it LE7S)

So I got my hands on an older (but retail) version of LE7 which I believe(d) would be upgradeable.

However when I try to install it it tells me that I have a newer version already installed. I say install anyway and it installs fine, but it doesn't ask me for the serial number and when I open it up it appears to be LE7S on my mac not the retail version I have. Well actually it appears to have installed LE7 (the version number has I think changed to 7.0.0, but the serial number and the 'not for resale' message and the name it is registered to are all there, straight off of LE7S.

I tried a second time. This time I moved all LE7 software from my dock and applications folder to trash and did a secure delete. However I still have the same problem. I even searched 'logic' to verify there was no application anywhere on the computer and there wasn't - but the install still resulted in LE7S serial number and registration name on my mac and not the new one (ie the older retail version)

So, how do I remove all traces of a bit of software from my computer prior to a new install?

EDIT: Mac OSX 10.5.2 G4 Powerbook, 1 gig ram, 1.67 MHZ
