Installing on an early 2015 Macbook?

My early 2015 Macbook with 1.3GHz and 8GB of ram often lags and gets a spinning beachball while doing very simple tasks. For this reason I'm a bit hesitant to upgrade, though has anyone tried? Does it seem to run smoothly?
