Hey guys i seem to need some help.

My hard drive is failing, and it needs to be replaced on my macbook pro.
Now i have an external HD, and a brand new internal HD for use.
I want to restore my time machine backup onto the new HD.
the problem is i lost my restore and Snow leopard disk. so i had to resort to torrenting..

i found a way to install the OSX dmg onto the ext HD,(no dual layer dvd's) but it seems that everytime i try to boot up the OSX image, it stays on the white apple screen for a long time. Am i too impatient and should wait? how long should it take to boot up the osx DMG on my HD?

tl:dr how do i get osx on my new HD with no disks

hey make sure in disk utility your hard drive is the destination and that dmg file is the image once thats one your external drive when you turn on the mac hold the option key down while the drive is plugged in youll see the mac os x you can install from there

yes i have done that, but when i select the image when booting up, it stays stuck on the apple screen. How long should i wait for the image to load? isnt it supposed to be instant. not 10 mins????

Maybe your torrent had a trojan. Wouldn't be unheard of. Apple will replace your install disk for a nominal fee (~$30). Contact them.
