I'm having troubling involving the iMacs at my college frequently corrupting my account.

I've decided I might as well install osx to a usb drive and use the student wifi (its for when we bring in our own computers)

I know how to do the installation but I need to know of any caveats or unusual mistakes I could make. doesn anyone know of any risks I should be aware of?

Just make sure the format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and the partition map scheme is GUID and you should be all set.

Just back all the files up, get the restoration and no risk will ever happen that is related to the installation. Ever. If ever the installation failed, restore it back to the old one and get the files back. Unless of course, the first installation failed and the restoration failed too. But it is highly unlikely. I'm more likely to win a billion dollar lottery than having to fail the two installations.
