Installing Snow Leopard without DVD drive - possible?

Hi there, I have an iMac with a faulty DVD drive. Needs fixed, but I don't have time to get it fixed right now. Any way I can rip the Snow Leopard DVD contents on my MacBook and copy to the HD of the iMac over my network, and install from there? Suspect not, but thought it worth asking...
 
from what i've heard you can create a disk image of SL and restore it using disk utility to a USB stick and install it from there.
