Ok, so I've got the BasicTex distribution from MacTeX set up and working with TeXShop, no problems there.

Now, I'm getting some errors when I try to compile certain .tex files if they use certain packages like :
- numprint.sty
- the multirow package

(I'm getting errors like this : "! LaTeX Error: File 'numprint.sty' not found" and "\usepackage{multirow} ? ! LaTeX Error: File 'multirow.sty' not found."

From what I understand, I need to install some extra packages which weren't included in the BascTex distribution. Or TeXShop just isn't finding them on my hard drive for some reason.

Was wondering if someone knew where/how to install packages? I can't seem to find how to do this on Mac OS X...

Thanks!

From this webpage http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/whereisstuff.html:

Personal Tex files should be stored in ~/Library/texmf. (Recall that ~/Library is the library folder in your home directory, while /Library is a system folder analogous to /Applications.) You will have to create the subfolder "texmf." When TeX needs to open a file, it searches ~/Library/texmf first, so if you modify a standard TeX file and place it there, the modified file will be used.

The folder structure inside ~/Library/texmf should mimic that of the texmf trees in your TeX distribution. This is easier than it appears. TeX will locate any file in ~/Library/texmf/tex or in a subfolder of this folder; LaTeX will locate any file in ~/Library/texmf/tex/latex or a subfolder of this folder. Bibtex will locate any file in ~/Library/texmf/bibtex/bib or in a subfolder of this folder. Etc.

So download the packages you need from CTAN, and place them in ~/Library/texmf/tex/latex
