Hi i'm having trouble booting my power mac g4 with tiger, i have tried many ways all unsuccsessful. I Got a DVD burner/reader for it so i could install tiger, when i click the install icon a message pops up and says: "cannot find translation extension with appropriate translators". I have tried booting from the Dvd but as soon as my screen lights up there is a kernel error it says to re start. what should i do? i have also tried using a fire wire and installing from my macbook but i am unsure how to go about it correctly, i am sorry for the lack of detail i am not very smart when it come to computers, and no matter what i do nothing ever seems to work. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Joey.

it was a guestimate sorry a little exaggerated. thank you for your help. So i need to find a non model specific version of tiger? that would be the black one?

i believe you are correct, the disk does not have very much info on it. it reads: iMac
mac OS X install disk 1.

Mac OS version 10.4.7
AHT version 3A111
disk version 1
2Z691-5859-A

Thats pretty much all it says. so im not too sure

You need to use an original boxed Tiger DVD...ie (Tiger 10.4.0) -- Black Disc with a metal-looking "X" on it. Use this disc to install, then run the updates to get you up to 10.4.11. The grey discs, as said above are the system-specific disks which come with different Macs. An intel-mac Tiger system install disk is probably what you are trying to use...one that came with an intel-based Mac. You can't use an intel-Mac grey installer Tiger disk to install on a G4.

I would try to grab one off eBay on-the-cheap.
