Hi All,

I recently went the Optibay route after the death of my superdrive. Installation went fine, the old 160gb travelstar is in optical bay (sata via pata converter) and the new 500gb is on the original SATA bus. To top it off I finally made the upgrade to snow leopard and reformatted the machine. Now for the life of me now, I can not seem to install XP (original legit disc) again.

I'm working on a 2.33 C2D (merom) 17" MBP, with an external samsung usb dvd drive, all usb ports seem to be working fine. The XP install disc will show up on my desktop, but booting with the disc in drive brings up a (grayish) white screen after start up which hangs out for few minutes until the system gives up and boots into 10.6. I've tried rEFIt, but that just causes the computer to flash between the apple logo and the no symbol aka circle with backslash (refit might be a 10.6.3 issue). Tried Boot Camp as well, which partitions fine, but fails on the same screen.

If anyone has any solutions, resources or workarounds, I would be forever indebted. I'm at wits end here, and I need xp for the mcjob. Thanks in advance, and if this is inappropriate thread please let me know I've only lurked before this post.

edit: Think it's an efi limitation, just need to get refit or another boot loader working.
