Hi, I have been using Instant Handbrake to copy my DVD's for use on my iPod. I ripped Total Recall (h.264 for iPod) and it gave me a much bigger file size than 1 GB (3.5 GB), the movie is almost 2 hours, but on iTunes it says 1.30 GB. [other iPod movies, mine are mostly close to 1GB]
I know the movies from iTunes are 620 X 480, right? I think Instant Handbrake encodes at that same size. Are the movies from iTunes h.264 or mpeg? (it seems they would be in mpeg because they are around 1 GB-meaning smaller than h.264 files)
How much bigger is h.264 than mpeg-4 (double?), Or does it depend on the movie (action film=more framerate?)
My main issue is (using iTunes as a reference point), I want to know why some movies are huge and some aren't.
Clockstoppers
Ripped- 492.6 MB
iTunes- 1.08 GB
Flightplan (bigger)
Ripped- 1.05 GB
iTunes- 1.02 GB
Team America: World Police
Ripped- 514.5 MB
iTunes- 1.08 GB
Total Recall (much bigger, what gives?)
Ripped- 3.5 GB
iTunes- 1.30 GB
P.S. How come ripped movies play better in VLC than Quicktime? (for me at least)
