I'm getting a 5.5G iPod soon and was going to start ripping some DVDs with Handbrake to iPod format. However, I saw Instant Handbrake, which looked a lot easier to use than the regular. Does Instant HB convert video in 640x480 though? That the video is in that size is an important factor to me.

I'm not sure but I think it only converts to 320 width by whatever the height of the iPod screen is

Here are some good directions that have worked for me.

Change the Codecs to H.264 Video/AAC Audio

Select x264 BASELINE!!!! (VERY IMPORTANT) make sure it is baseline not main

Select and average bitrate of somewhere around 640

Leave the audio unless you want higher quality

Click Picture Settings check the "Keep aspect ratio" box then lower the width to 320 to fit the screen or bigger if you plan on watching it on anything else.

I saw people saying that you can't do it.. But they're saying since it's an open program you should be easily able to do it.. Just google it.. http://osxdaily.com/2006/11/28/instant-handbrake-a-quick-and-easy-dvd-to-ipod-conversion-utility/

Oh crap, I have been encoding all my movies in main. What's the difference?

P.S. I would also select deinterlace, one of the best features IMO. At least for general playback, no clue if it helps on an iPod since I don't have one.

In case your wondering, I don't plan on hooking the iPod up to a TV anytime soon, but I do plan on watching some of the videos on my MacBook.
