Can I trade in my current MacBook Air for credit towards the M3 MBA in store on Friday or do I have to send it in.

I’m in UK and I’ve always done trade-ins in store and once in China.

I think it's better to do it in-store becuase an actual Apple employee looks at it right in front of you and you get credit on the spot.

My understanding is that when you send it in, it's handled by some third-party company they hire. People on here have complained a lot about it being not a well managed process.

In-Store, and don't forget - as long as you bring in the trade in within 2 weeks of buying, you don't have to do it same day as purchase! - they'll just refund you the difference.

Is there a reason to delay taking the laptop in?

Wouldn't it be smarter to take it in, get it appraised so that you know the amount they’re giving you, and, if satisfactory, trade it in AND buy the new one right then and there?

Why risk taking it in up to 2 weeks later? You could damage it in the meantime; it could have a failure; and you might not get the amount you expected, anyway?!

Yes. If you don't like what you purchased getting your old machine back is not the smoothest process. If you know exactly what you want (including color), will not be changing what you purchased, then there is no real reason to delay.

I have not had any issues trading in devices through Apple and sending in the trade-in. In fact, that was the only method allowed when updating my watch. Trading in at the store has the advantage that you can watch and verify the assessment, and get a receipt that Apple has the device.

The only place I have had an issue trading in a device was Xfinity when I upgraded my phone. Getting the monthly credit on my account required writing a letter to the CEO and the first credit showed up four months after I sent in the phone. I had the email saying the device arrived, was in the condition promised, and the monthly credit would be issued, shortly after sending in the phone. But Xfinity back office weenies had no record of the device being returned.
