I bought a mouse for my new iPad 12.9. The cable that came with it doesn't match the one in the instructions. I googled this and it's been a known issue since 2017 and nothing has been done about it. So, yeah, I paid the extra $25 to get the cable that I should have already paid for. Shame on you Apple. This is not what I expected from you.

It's not really clear what you're posting about. Which mouse? What type of cable? What known issue? Can you return it? Did you contact Apple Support? We're big on wanting details here.

Do you mean you bought a Magic Mouse and it came with lightning instead of usb-c? And why would you need another cord when you'll use a wireless connection? Some more details would be helpful.
