I dropped my old trusty insulted Klean Kanteen bottle. It is now dented. I primary use this for commuting to work in the morning -- about a 40 minute drive. It does a great job keeping my coffee hot. I am now considering a Hydro Flask or a Yeti but I really enjoy the patented "cafe cap" that Klean Kanteen uses -- easy to clean and great for drinking coffee as opposed to water or other kinds of beverages. So, I may just order anoth Klean Kanteen. Does anybody have a preferred insulated drinking bottle for drinking coffee while commuting?

I have been using these for years and feel they do a good job for the price. Always wanted to try a Yeti but the price just seems excessive when I don't have complains about what I use currently.

Out of the 6 or so I have had:

Pros:
Good performance with both hot and cold beverages.
Never had a open/close seal leak.

Cons:
Had 1 lid seal come out of its track and would not go back in.
A lot of folks have them so be careful in groups or be prepared to find out who the alcoholics in your group are 🤣

I got a Stainless King 16oz travel mug by Thermos at my local Walmart a few years back. At the time I had no certainty about the availability of coffee at my (then) new job. The action is a simple flick of the lever.

My only (non) problem with this mug has been that sometimes it's been too efficient. I've had hot coffee take hours to cool and there were days I left the office with mid-morning coffee still very warm.

My wife has started borrowing it lately because the school she teaches at has for some reason banned coffeemakers inside classrooms. She remarked to me that her morning coffee was still hot when she got home.

I would also mention that this is a woman who owns a Kleen Kanteen that I bought her with Death Wish Coffee branding.

This looks nice with a practical lid, which for me probably the most important thing. I need one that has functionality when driving. Thanks.

Interesting. Thermos has been around forever. The OG. Not sure about the handle because I sometimes like to put my bottle in a pocket on my backpack. Still may work though. I'll check it out. Thanks.

It never even occurred to me that people would BUY an insulated mug. I’ve gathered so many as promos, etc that I have more than I need. I checked out Yeti just out of curiosity though… are you !#@$ing kidding me? $38 for a coffee mug? 😳

I am a plebe I guess and never got a stainless insulated bottle as a promo. Did get one as gift though -- not that great for car travel because it had a lid you needed to take off before drinking. So the Yeti is not worth it. I need to get something sooner than later to travel with so I suppose I am stuck making a purchase.

I believe, if you look at Thermos's website, they also have the same style without handles. These all seem to come in a variety of colors too. I got stainless because that's what was on the store shelf at the time.

preferred insulated drinking bottle

I'm usually a Nalgene person. But when I want a liquid to stay hot or cold for hours and hours, I like the S'well brand of double-walled bottles.

This is their travel mug:

Just wanted to give a shoutout to Nalgene Customer Service. I have a bottle that developed a leak and after filling out a short warranty webform, Nalgene is sending me a replacement without requiring a return of the leaky bottle.

ETA 2
The mention of Thermos made me curious to see if the Thermos company is still independent, is owned by some other company, is owned by a private equity firm, or was only a brand name being used by a maker of insulated bottles (all of these are common with legacy brands). It turns out that Thermos is currently a division of a large Japanese company. That's most likely a good thing because private equity ownership or existence only as a brand name often results in lower quality products.

Fascinating discussion.

If time is not an issue, I would recommend checking with small local coffee shops, often staffed by specialists and enthusiasts, as they might be able to recommend a product that they know to be good which might not be a well known brand.

Having said that, yes, Thermos has been around for ever, and these were the flasks, well designed, and rugged and reliable, - the name Thermos was the standard by which these products were judged - that my parents used for long journeys, or picnics, or when my dad had to take a packed lunch with him for work, when we were children.

I have a bottle from my son that he got from his workplace. I think that these were standard SWAG promotional giveaways. It fits in a cupholder, is slightly curved in the middle and it has a plastic flip-top lid and he gave it to me in 2011 and I'm still using it. I use it in the car and I use it on the tennis court. It is not 100% spill proof as there is a tiny hole to let steam out and air in while you are drinking. But it's fine in a car.

I also got a free H2GO 25 ounce water bottle from a Fidelity giveaway though it has a screw top and carrying handle so it's better for trips or sports rather than drinking while you are driving. It's possible that there are compatible screw tops for drinking one-handed.

Yeah, they are pricey, but if the work and work very well...worth it? I like to give them as gifts.

I missed out on the Fidelity giveaway. I find it absurd I did not receive one as I am a good long-time client with them. I do not like when companies offer promotional items to new clients while ignoring their long-time good ones.

I especially liked my old insulated stainless bottle because it kept my coffee hot for like three to five hours (more than I would ever need) and also had a great lid design to drink from. All you need to do is twist it to the drink position or twist it back to seal it. There is no removing of the of the lid necessary to drink. Also, the lid mechanism splits into four pieces to allow for a thorough and easy cleaning.

I got a few of these from an old employer but these were from the 1990s and they were plastic back then and they weren't insulated.

I think that you can find SWAG giveaways on some Reddit forums and maybe other social media sites. Fidelity gave away 1,000 of the H2GO flasks in January. All you had to do is comment in the thread.

I had one. It didn't work as well as the vacuum flask, probably because lid contact area was much bigger thus allowing much faster exchange of energy, but it kept the liquid inside hot/cold for longer when closed than regular mug.

don't leave out Stanley , there another OG

I got one for my daughter in college , it exceeded her expectations ,
That's cool!

I have a full Stanley thermos, the kind you get for camping with the pourthru spout. Way back when I was dating my wife and on into our first year of marriage we'd brew coffee and put it in that Stanley (and half'n half in a glass insulated thermos). We'd then leave a little early for work and have coffee in one of the breakrooms. Always kept the coffee hot.

I once did the math for some Starbucks cappuccinos and put them into the thermos. No problem keeping them hot for the entire time I was using it to drink from. Washing it out later was a bit involved though, lol.

Going to have to check this Stanley mug out. Love the black!

I also use a thermos bottles that have stainless steel bottles or tanks inside when driving long distance, or just camping and riding UTV's.
