I dropped my iPhone 11 Pro and the back fully shattered, so I am getting a replacement in the new few days. Are the replacements a refurbished model or new? I haven’t filed a claim in a very very long time. I asked the rep yesterday and they couldn’t answer the questions

I’m guess refurbished but wanted to see what you guys came across on carrier claims

T-Mobile uses Assurant and Asurion as insurance providers.

I don't think they give Apple certified refurbished because those are only available to Apple themselves.

It'll be something Asurion went over with a damp rag before throwing in a box. Unless you actually bought AC+ when you bought the phone?

Ok just wanted an idea. I plan swapping out the device on my JOD plan after a month or so. Not sure yet but I’ll see how it works

Did you do a claim with Apple or T-Mobile? From what I understand, if someone trades in a device that’s in great condition (11 pro in your instance), it is checked over by T-Mobile and resent out as a phone claim device. That’s what I was told by a store rep when I traded in a pristine condition X. She specifically told me my trade in was being categorized as a device that would get sent to someone else as an insurance replacement.

My understanding is that recently (within the last year or so), both T-Mobile and Sprint (which is merged now with T-Mobile) began offering AppleCare+ themselves. I've been informed that the carrier service stores are trained as Apple techs and are expected to provide the same level of service you'd find at an Apple store and if they can't fix a device they send it to Apple.

Presumably, if all you bought was insurance and not AC+ (either through your carrier or Apple), then yeah, it'd be Assurant. But the idea here for AC+ through the carriers is to provide that Apple level of service to customers who do not live close to an Apple store.

Take that as you will, just passing along what I've been told.

T-Mobile. I got the Ins through my carrier since I didn’t get it in time with Apple.
