This could be doable but it depends on some factors. I don’t have any nest devices, but I do have some automations that incorporate sounds playing from HomePod (there’s a ton of effects listed as songs on Apple Music) and devices exposed with homebridge. The kicker here is if the nest api can detect button presses as an event to use as a trigger once it’s exposed via homebridge. If not you still may be able to use motion sensing as a trigger. It all depends on how the plugin works and what nest “allows”. If you find something that works you would just use a HomeKit automation for when accessory is controlled (or motion detected), play audio from HomePod.
You can check for a nest plugin for homebridge here: https://www.npmjs.com/search?q=homebridge-plugin
This is a neat idea hope it works out for you.

Just as a follow-up: I found a 16volt DIN rail transformer in the UK (on amazon of all places), and that allows me to go for a smoother path with a 16volt power supply and a 16v chime (sourced in the USA).
Should be easier and more reliable than a software solution. [Also less expensive]
Nice! Sometimes the "dumb" solution is the smarter choice 👍 🙌
