The 2010 MacBook Air Ultimate has an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz, and the 2011 MacBook Air Ultimate has an Intel Core i7 1.8Ghz. Both are dual core. The previous model CPU had a higher GHz than the newer model CPU, and it still outperforms the old model.

How come?

Same reason a 1.6GHz Core i5 thumps a 3.8GHz Pentium 4 six ways from Sunday.

the 1.8 i7 overclocks itself to something like 2.9GHz when one core is in use (Intel Turbo boost 2.0). also the core i series have a technology called hyper threading. this makes the processors a virtual quad core. OSX recognized 4 cores.
also its a completely new and more advanced architecture
