Intel i7 and Sony DSC-W55 problem

I bought a new i7 MacBook Pro the other week and I just tried to import photos from my Sony DSC-W55 camera.

I have the camera in mass storage mode and when I switch it on, iPhoto detects it and brings up the import window. If I then import all photos, after a random number of seconds, the camera disconnects and iPhoto complains that teh camera wasn't properly disconected.

Any suggestions how to diagnose this? Thanks

I got around this by using Image Capture to import the pictures into a folder on my desktop and then importing into iPhoto from there. Even importing using Image Capture to iPhoto failed. So at least I have a workaround.
