Alright so I did it, I successfully opened my iMac, replaced the internal HDD, and closed it! yay

It won't turn on now :(

There was no static discharge during the process so I doubt anything is fried, and all I did was get at the HDD, nothing else.

Any possible ideas on what this could be? Of course it could mean it is completely dead, but maybe i'm missing something, or maybe there is a way to get it going again.

I looked up resetting the SMU on apple.com support, but that process seems to be for older G-series iMacs.

not sure what happened but try opening it back up and making sure you didn't disconnect a plug and that the screws are tight on the hard drive and all cables plugged in...

my screwdriver skills are flawless lol

I fixed it. I found an intel based support page this time, I tried disconnecting everything to do a reset, that didn't work, so I removed/replaced the RAM, and then plugged it into a different outlet just to make sure (as using a different outlet was also a suggested procedure).

Sure enough it powered on, I'm installing OS X Tiger as we type.
