I am quite surprised the intel chip is better so far in my limited time with it. At home I was getting around 65 mbps down and 6 up with my X. With my 11 pro I’m getting 88 down and 8 up which is better then I thought since I have hear horror stories with the intel chips going as far back as the 7 days

I am trying to compare the iPhone 11 vs XR. Specifically the low signal (2 bars and less) performance with data. The iPhone XR struggles sometimes with data on two bars or less LTE signal on Verizon.

iPhone X - first gen Qualcomm gigabit LTE modem
iPhone 11 - second gen Intel gigabit LTE modem

The Intel modem is much newer, so it's not surprising it'll outperform an old Qualcomm product.

My 11 Pro is actually better than my Qualcomm X. Both speeds and signal.

You also have to remember Apple throttled down the Qualcomm chip.

Of course the newest Intel chip is better than a 2 year old Qualcomm chip.

That logic is flawed because that doesn’t necessarily mean better. Intel has been worse then Qualcomm modems in previous years when phones had both and was afraid I’ll get a worse signal with the intel one

You have the 11 pro not max?

As one of Qualcomms core businesses they typically excel at modem tech compared to Intel. That doesn't mean Intel is "bad", it just mean they might be "not as good".

Later model Intel modems in the iPhone XS and newer perform very well. Intel closed a lot of the gaps. Keep in mind this is a technological gap not because Qualcomm is innately better (admittedly they are though).

For example 4x4 MIMO is the difference between the two intel equipped iPhones below....

Then it depends on software and modem firmware (you can check that in settings > About).

For example the difference between iOS 11 and iOS 12 (modem firmware) is as big of a difference as Intel vs Qualcomm when the X modem results were relevant as shown....

(keep in mind RSPR is a narrow window here and its bad signal 120-129, except disconnect at 125-129).

The biggest factor is carrier support for a particular person. MIMO and network aggregation are the differences you are experiencing. In my area I might not see any improvements due to network limitations (much like how the 1+ gbit/s cap is NEVER seen due to bandwidth caps and network congestion).

Apple bought Intels modem business to tailor the modem for the device specifically (and likely to acquire Intels patent portfolio). So they might not ever be "the best" they will certainly be the best for iPhones.

Intel modem used in iPhone 11 is not bad at all. It could be slightly worse than Qualcomm, but not “so worse” not to be better than a 2 years old Qualcomm modem.

I forgot to mention I have yet to see a “No Service” on my iPhone 11 Pro whereas I would see it every now and then on my Qualcomm X. So that is why I think the iPhone 11 Pro has better reliability with signal. Speeds are also A LOT faster.

Results are based in my apartment where both AT&T and Verizon struggle with signal.

Yea I may have had no service and had to toggle airplane once or twice on my 11PM compared to regularly on the XS Max.
