Apparently Intel's Paxville processor is hot in the wrong way...

"There's no doubt about it, Intel's dual-core Xeons are their most power hungry Xeons to date," GamePC writes. "Even when idling, two dual-core Xeons consume nearly 400W of power at any given time, which is amazingly high, even by Intel's standards."

What gives?

Intel are throwing around terms like "early adopter" with this chip, in other words it's something to calm down Intel customers who can't wait for next year's more proper dual core parts.

There's already another thread on the article.

But why calm down potential customers with something that's rubbish? I suppose they do mention that it's not up to much, but still, I'd prefer to wait...

Dell, I'd assume. They will have wanted to have dual core on marketing bullet lists, and they don't do AMD.
