Yeah I tried to do it on my Apple watch and I got

"You can only intercom from one homepod to another"
I'm running the 13.4.8 firmware on them.
I'm on Watch Os7

So I'm assuming once HomepodOS 14 comes out on them this will work?

Really hope this comes to the OG HomePod too. Don’t see why it couldn’t but they didn’t mention it either at the event.

They did advertise that it’ll work with iPhone, CarPlay, Apple Watch, AirPods...

Got my two HomePods on the latest beta and my iPad Pro as well. Intercom is showing up on all devices but it doesn’t work. When I ask the HomePod: “Hey Siri, use intercom” she responds I can speak my message and she does seem to record it, but it doesn’t play.
When I hit the new intercom button on my iPad in the home app it will pop-up a recording interface and when I hit done it says it couldn’t send the message to my home.

One reason I can think of is that not all my devices are on the beta, my iPhone is running the normal iOS 14 production update. Then again, it’s the first beta with the feature so it’s not that big of a surprise that there are glitches.

Some screenshots (my system is in Dutch but all rooms/scenes are in English because HomePods don’t understand Dutch)
