I see this more as a way to keep those wanting to buy into a streaming box and then realize they might not need cable.

we haven't been using our AppleTV as much since we went back to Comcast (we are using netflix for the first time as it was included in our bundle and though I prefer to use the AppleTV my wife prefers just using the Comcast box to stream).

so, the more we use Xfinity box, the less we "rely" on the other streaming options.

It's still using the old cable service model, in that they bundle what they want to give you and that's what you get. Once you break away from that model, you get to build your own bundles. I have Netflix, Prime (really only because my wife has the account for shopping) and PS Vue, all accessed through Apple TVs and web browsers. Because I own the hardware, I save a bundle each month, and I can reconfigure my bundle on the fly at any time without any fees or hassle.
