nice article but it still doesn't explain why people say the screen looks bad compared the retina display, that mean that the eye CAN see the difference between the different PPI..

I think the brain also adjusts. For example, my external monitor is pretty good, but nowhere close to a retina. I loved it until I got the retina MBP. Now it's just ok, I can "see" the difference and find myself waiting for Apple to make a 24" or 27" retina monitor (whatever they call them). Which I would have dismissed a few weeks ago because that's going to be WAY to expensive !

Which is why I think people coming from a retina iPad shoud really give its chance to the mini if they like everything about it except the display. Let your eyes and brain adjust, and what you find horrible now may become "ok" after a few days. Or not, but then, they'll have no regrets returning it.
