There has been a reasonable amount of speculation of Apple modifying or discontinuing Aqua. Some rumors have suggested that the rumored new interface, named "illuminous", will use liberal amounts of black. Meanwhile, Apple has introduced a modified version of Aqua in iTunes 7 and, to some extent, the iPhone, using shades of cobalt and less gloss and transparency.
I'd like to have a discussion with all of the great people that make up MacRumors and see what you all think should be done.
Personally, I think it'd be a horrible to have a UI based on black. Black is not a good color to base a computer's UI off of, especially because it's harder to read text that way. That's why pretty much every computer GUI has used white or grey as its basis. I think the occasional black popup in iLife is okay, especially because they have hardly any text and deal mostly with media, but it wouldn't be good to have a UI resembling polished obsidian as the basis of it.
When iTunes 7 came out with its new UI, I didn't like it at first, but it's definitely grown on me. I like the cobalt. However, I don't like to see Lucida Grande go. I think that's a better font than what's used in iTunes and the iPhone.
I'd like to see the system discontinue the use of pinstripes and brushed metal. Instead, I'd like to see more of the aluminum present in iTunes Mail, and much of the beta of Leopard.
What would you like to see in a new interface? Discuss.
