Hello,

I have been in contact with Apple Support about this problem but while I wait to hear back from them I thought it best to try get help elsewhere or at last see if others are having the same issue.

Since January of last year I had been using Airplay to stream content from my MacBook Air to my AppleTV 4 and listen with my bluetooth headphones.

About two weeks before Christmas I started having problems with the audio on the headphones. The sound became wobbly and there is constant crackle. I had been working fine an hour earlier.

I can find no possible sources of interference ver the last few weeks I have tried multiple possible solutions several times each.

- Turning off the MacBook, headphones and AppleTV.
-Resetting the WiFi router
- Resetting the headphones
- Resetting the AppleTV
- Unplugging others devices like the microwave, etc.

I also tested the audio with three other bluetooth headphones and they produce the same bad sound. I have also tested each bluetooth headphone with my old iPone 4 on Airplay with the AppleTV and the sound is perfect.

The bluetooth headphones also work perfectly when used with just the AppleTV.

I have used the bluetooth headphones with just the MacBook many times and there is none of this interference. I sometimes feel as the audio is is not quite in sync but I have read that this is not uncommon.

A week ago, prior to calling Apple Support I performed an erase and reinstall of Sierra on my MacBook - not just for this problem but also because the system was using up far more hard drive space than was necessary and various other problems. The erase and reinstall actually received over 15 gigabytes of hard drive space and the MacBook seems to be performing better. However, the bad sound on Airplay remains.

The Apple Support agent has agreed that in light of my various checks and tests that the MAcBook does seem to be the source of the problem. He had me perform Hardware Check but this found no problems - I was curious about this because my batter condition is "Replace Soon" but I cannot recall whether the agent said the Hardware Check should have shown this.

Is anyone else having problems with bluetooth headphones on Airplay? Can anyone offer some suggestions of a possible cause or a solution?

Thanks for the time.
