Interference on External Display

This may sound like a daft question, but i just want to ask to see if anyone's had the same problem before i buy a new cable....When I connect my MacBook Pro to an external TV via the DVI to Video Adapter and SVideo to AV cable, i get strange wavy lines of white dots over the image on the TV. I had the same problem with my pc on another TV using the same cable, so it looks like it's the cable. Has anyone else experienced this?
